Brian Baxter

I graduated from Oxford University with an MA (Hons) in PPE, a B.Phil and D.Phil in Philosophy. An academic in Scotland, I concentrated on environmental philosophy in the latter part of my career. My books have been published in the UK, The United States and China, and include an award-winning monograph. Since 2018 I have lived in Somerset.

I have painted and been interested in art from a very young age. My paintings are collected and exhibited widely, with over 700 held in public and private collections throughout  Europe, North America and Australia. My works form part of the Parliamentary permanent collection and other public bodies such as Grampian Health Board and Angus Health Board.

Known for my watercolours, my practice extends across a full range of media, including ceramics.

My artworks have been shown frequently – in solo shows, two and three-person exhibitions, group and mixed exhibitions, as well as by selection and  invited artist. For the past two years I have opened my home as ARTHAUS Great Elm.
