In this talk Jill Dunkerton, Senior Restorer at the National Gallery will discuss recent developments in scientific imaging techniques and how there have extended the range of what the restorer can discover about the pictures they are working. She will focus on a particular Renaissance picture in the National Galleries’ collection, The Adoration of the Kings by the Florentine artists Sandro Botticelli and Filippino Lippi to show the ways in which new techniques can supplement and sometimes challenge the findings of traditional connoisseurship.
