Mark Pender

Originally from Bath, Mark has been painting and exhibiting for many years but, until he retired from a full-time fiinancial services career in London at the end of 2017 and moved back to the West Country, his career as an artist took second fiddle. He launched his “Dorset period” by participating in Dorset Art Weeks in 2018 (opening the Sherborne studio which he shares with his wife Miranda) and since then has actively followed his art locally. He very much enjoys being a member of Bruton Art Society (it is de;initely the area’s leading society in terms of quality and variety of activities, not to mention friendliness) and is a member of several other societies and groups. Mark exhibits regularly throughout the year with society or open exhibitions or art fairs such as Bath Art Fair. He is an organiser of the annual Sherborne Open Art Exhibition and a trustee of Yeovil Art Space, a charity that seeks to promote art at all levels, providing educational workshops, outreach and participatory activities for communities and schools.

Mark paints mainly in oils, but sometimes other media and has developed a reputation for whimsical or humorous work, often based on fairy tales or fable.
