Lee Jones

After a 35-year career in the British Army, I have retired from military service to dedicate myself to developing my painting practice. Alongside my military career, I pursued academic and professional development, gaining qualifications including an MSc in Education from the University of Southampton. Throughout this time, painting has remained an important creative outlet and a passion that I have developed independently over more than 15 years.

I am a self-taught acrylic artist, continually developing my technique and exploring the use of colour, light, composition and atmosphere to create vibrant, expressive paintings. My work encompasses a range of subjects, including hot-air balloons, flowers, landscapes and places, with a particular interest in creating paintings that evoke a sense of optimism, freedom and escapism.

My Rise Above collection of hot-air balloon paintings explores themes of perspective, possibility and looking beyond the everyday. Through expansive skies, vibrant colours and a sense of movement, I aim to create uplifting works that invite the viewer to pause, reflect and imagine themselves somewhere else.

Having now retired from the Army, I am dedicating more time to my art, continuing to refine my practice and develop new collections. I look forward to exploring new ideas, exhibiting my work and sharing my paintings with a wider audience.
