We look forward to seeing BAS members this Thursda We look forward to seeing BAS members this Thursday at Caryford Hall for the Christmas Lecture, followed by seasonal refreshments. A time to welcome all NEW MEMBERS and to thank our EXHIBITION HELPERS. In this talk James Russell, a well-known authority on early twentieth century British painting, will consider the landscapes of the brothers Paul and John Nash. At the time Paul Nash was the more prominent artist. However, in recent years, John Nash’s work has been seen to have a distinct value and individuality of its own. James will look at the relationship between the two painters, and how this stimulated developments in their practices. Caryford Hall, Castle Cary. Thursday 5th December, 2.30 - 4.30pm Members free. Guests £5 on the door
And here it is, the swan song to our 71st Annual E And here it is, the swan song to our 71st Annual Exhibition: The winner of this years public vote was this painting by Barry Wills entitled 'Illuminated River'. The prize is sponsored by The Big Red Bus Company. Congratulations to Barry and to all this years prize winners, and the many other members whose work was selected to be shown. It really was, once again, an excellent exhibition and well worth a visit. Thats it folks! Our Annual Exhibition is over for Thats it folks! Our Annual Exhibition is over for another year. One last award winner to share: the winner of the portrait prize was Cameron Scott with ‘Self Portrait as Peter Blake (The Somerset Years). The prize is sponsored by The Cockhill Press. It was once again a really good exhibition and achieved only as a result of a lot of effort by a lot of people, most notably the large number of BAS members who contributed their work to the show. However, special thanks are due to one person in particular (and her team of elves). All too soon we are approaching the end of the 71s All too soon we are approaching the end of the 71st Annual Exhibition which has proved very popular again this year. Today's featured prize winner is Jules Horn for this little gem ‘Wessex Magic 2’, who was awarded the abstract prize sponsored by Bruton Art Society. And it is literally a little gem measuring only 9 x 9cms! If you have not been able to make it to the show, or if you have been and want to come again, there is still time tomorrow. After that it's a whole year until the next one. The Exhibition continues at Kings Memorial Hall, Kings School Bruton until 4pm tomorrow, 24th August. Todays featured award from the 71st Annual Exhibit Todays featured award from the 71st Annual Exhibition is the Still Life / Floral Award sponsored by the Gardens Group. The winner was ‘Thistles and Artichokes’ by Hilary Ball. Beautiful colours! In a couple of days this years show will draw to a close, so you only have a small window of opportunity to rush out and buy some stunning Christmas presents! It really is a good exhibition; not to be missed. Open from 10am to 4pm until Saturday 24th August at Kings Memorial Hall, Bruton.
