Lynn Baxter

As an abstract painter and sculptor with a wide practice and interests, I work in a number of media, including wood, metal, ceramics and paint. I love industrial landscapes, architecture, the abstraction of letter forms, found materials, the old crafts, the written word.

My earlier career includes publishing, theatre, arts- and public art- administration, serving with charitable and public bodies.

I hold a first class BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, the University of Dundee, where I received two awards, including the Alastair Smart Memorial Prize for sculpture. I have an MA in English Literature and Language from the University of Edinburgh and also studied at Ruskin College, Oxford, the University of Warwick and Dundee College.

I now live and work in Somerset after having my permanent home in Scotland.

Prizes:

  • The Alastair Smart Memorial Sculpture Prize, University of Dundee.
  • The Pat Holmes Prize for Top Foundation Year Student, University of Dundee.
  • Bruton Art Society Sculpture Prize, 2023.

Commissions:  

  • Bas relief, A Cabinet of Curiosities for Eight Incorporated Trades, for     Volvo.

Residencies: 

  • Yorkshire Sculpture Park International Student Residency, YSP and York St John University
  • Artist in Residence at Cromarty, awarded by the Cromarty Arts Trust
