New Gallery in Wincanton opens for Somerset Art Weeks

Committee member John Baxter has written an illustrated account of a Somerset Art Weeks exhibition organised by Zak Greening in Wincanton on the site of Clementinas. Called Greening the Earth Gallery, this “stunning new art gallery” particularly appealed to John & he recommends it as a “must see” for Bruton Art Society members. (See link below to read all about it & see his photos of the exhibition)

Fourteen BAS members signed up for this extremely enjoyable workshop.
Alex lead the group with enthusiasm reminding them of  drawing basics & how important they are to practice.
Remarks from the group:
“Some very interesting work ..felt stretched & stimulated”
“..put through my paces..made to think what is meant by “Drawing”..”
“..it was an eye opener to most of us”
“Without the guidance and enthusiasm of the tutor I doubt whether we would have been so adventurous.”
“…always good to go back to basics and pick up extra techniques and tips from an expert…”

Art Award for King’s School Pupil

Congratulations to Narnia Van Heerden who has received Bruton Art Society’s Award to a King’s School Pupil . We hear she has excelled at her A levels this year across the board and gained an A* in Art. Well done Narnia! You can see her work on the easel in our exhibition.

Gary Cook Workshop

Plein Air Watercolour Painting with Gary Cook SGFA
16 – 17 May

Day 1   It was apple blossom time in the orchard outside Hadspen village hall, and  after a slide show tutorial the group spent the day outdoors painting under Gary’s guidance.
Day 2  was wet so Gary set large colour prints on the walls and used demonstrations to guide the group with many tips from colour choice to using salt crystals.
He was a sensitive and thoughtful tutor showing the group exactly how to capture the light, as promised.  The final show of work was very impressive.

We’re now on Instagram

The Society has just opened an Instagram account and we’ve made a good start with 120 followers within 2 weeks!

We’ve been showing images from our exhibitions and are linking up with many other artists in the region.

Quite a few of our members enjoy using Instagram.

For those who don’t know – Instagram allows artists to get their work seen if they want to share it, but they can also enjoy the work of many other artists  – locally, nationally & internationally.
