James Russell – Ravilious a life in pictures. 7-12-2017

On Thursday 7th December the Bruton Art Society held its Christmas Party, at which new members were welcomed. We were also fortunate to receive an excellent lecture by James Russell on the work and life of the artist and designer Eric Ravilious. Ravilious was one of the most original and promising young artists in Britain in the 1930s. Try Silk Painting with Margaret Kelly

 Silk Painting. Create Something Beautiful  

For years BAS member Margaret Kelly has been teaching individuals and classes how to produce stunning paintings on silk and she will be running two one day courses at Bayford Village Hall on June 14th and 15th 10 am to 4 pm.  She provides expert tuition and all the materials you will need for £40 for each day.  Beginners are welcome and participants are often amazed at what they are able to produce.

A  Lecture by Alexandra Drysdale. North Cadbury Village Hall, 4 April 2017

A large group of Bruton Art Society Members and friends came to hear a fascinating lecture by Alexandra Drysdale on the colour blue and its use in art from the Egyptians to the present day.  An accomplished NADFAS lecturer, Alexandra is both an artist and an art historian. In this talk she brought together considerable learning with practical experience to cover this most important topic.

Clancy Steer Talk 50 Years of Stage and costume Design

A lecture by Clancy for the Bruton Art Society

Deirdre Clancy Steer, known professionally as Clancy, has played a key role in the development of modern theatre costume design, winning two awards for her work, the Olivier Award for Best Stage Costume Design and the BAFTA for Best Film Costume Design for her work on the film Mrs Brown, starring Judi Dench and Billy Connoll.  She has worked on over 140 productions in Europe, North America, Japan and Australia. She has designed innumerable productions at the Royal National Theatre.

2016 Exhibition Open Saturday 13th – 27th August

IMG_1996Our 63rd Exhibition opens on Saturday 13rth of August and runs daily until Saturday 27th August .  There is no entry charge and it is open every day 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.  Our venue, again thanks to the generosity of the Head Mrs Nicola Botterill and the Governors, is Bruton School for Girls, Sunny Hill Bruton, BA10 ONT.

This year our members submitted a record number of works and over 270 have been hung and are on display together with mounted unframed paintings, drawings and prints and an excellent selection of artist made cards.
